Translatingsculptural space into painting
The paintings from 2016–2017 mark a transitional moment in my practice, as my focus shifted from sculpture to painting. Although the medium changed, my approach to composing space remained rooted in sculptural thinking. I continued to construct environments as if they were physical structures, now translated onto the flat surface of the panel.
Narrative elements began to appear more clearly during this period. My earlier experience studying photography influenced this shift, shaping my understanding of framing, staging, and spatial tension. The figures inhabit carefully constructed interiors that function almost like theatrical spaces, where gesture and placement carry psychological weight.
