2021 painting
Form as narrative
The paintings from 2021 mark a gradual shift away from the uncertainty of the previous year. During this period, I found a clearer balance between narrative suggestion and the formal structure of the work.
Rather than allowing narrative to dominate the image, I returned to prioritizing composition, color, and form. As the paintings developed, it became increasingly clear that these elements themselves could carry meaning. Narrative could emerge naturally from the relationships between shapes and figures rather than being imposed on the work.
This realization reaffirmed something I had long understood through sculpture: that form itself can function as narrative.
