Meaning and interpretation
In 2019 I became more aware of how viewers responded to the imagery in my paintings. The subject matter increasingly prompted questions about meaning and interpretation.
While my process remains rooted in form, allowing images to emerge through the act of composing shapes and spatial relationships, I began to consider more deliberately how titles and references might influence a viewer’s reading of the work. Meaning still follows form, but during this period some paintings began to carry more intentional thematic associations, creating a more conscious dialogue between image and interpretation.
