Stations of the Cross
(A Fairytale)
Stations of the Cross (A Fairytale) Revisits a foundational narrative as a sequence of psychological thresholds rather than devotional images.
Using the traditional progression as a formal structure, I construct restrained, flattened spaces where vulnerability, endurance, doubt, and surrender unfold with compositional clarity and tension. The figure of Christ functions not as distant divinity but as a stand-in for human fragility, allowing the series to move beyond doctrine into archetype.
By invoking the language of fairytale, I acknowledge the formative power of inherited stories and their role in shaping moral imagination. Rooted in personal history yet culturally open, the work invites viewers to encounter the Stations as reflections on intimacy, resilience, and transformation within contemporary life.

Exhibition Experience
Stations of the Cross (A Fairytale) unfolds as a measured progression through psychological thresholds. Installed sequentially, the works guide viewers through a restrained spatial rhythm, repetition and variation echoing the traditional structure of the Stations while reframing them through contemporary interiority.
The paintings are intended to be arranged in linear succession along the perimeter of the gallery, allowing viewers to move gradually from image to image. Consistent spacing between works reinforces the sense of pause and suspension, creating intervals of silence between moments of emotional intensity. The flattened pictorial space within each painting mirrors the compressed physical movement through the exhibition, heightening proximity and vulnerability.
As viewers progress, intimacy accumulates. The central figure shifts subtly in posture and psychological state, and the surrounding environment tightens or opens in response. The experience is not theatrical in spectacle but in stillness, tension building through compositional restraint rather than overt drama.
The installation functions as a contemplative passage rather than a devotional reenactment. By the final work, viewers have not witnessed a narrative conclusion so much as moved through a series of emotional thresholds, leaving with a heightened awareness of fragility, endurance, and transformation.
